Knowledge Engineer

Contract work, on an as needed basis.

The Knowledge Engineer is responsible for the construction and maintenance of client knowledge in the form of documentation delivered over the web. This includes technical writing, visual element construction through the application of standardized style, the maintenance of supporting data, and adherence to the quality and publication processes required to deliver quality product.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Web based document construction using a variety of common HTML or XML authoring tools
  • Writing instructional material, typically of a processing or technical nature
  • Record level data management using MS Excel, MS Access, or other standard utilities
  • Peer to peer communication internally, and with the client content owners
  • Following project plans to complete work within established timeframes
  • Other duties as assigned

Web Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Command of the written English language
  • Knowledge of the internet as a delivery mechanism for web based knowledge content
  • Knowledge of XML, XSLT, HTML or other major web delivery and presentation formats
  • Proficiency with the use of a computer to create written documentation
  • Ability to learn new applications for use in document creation and processing
  • Ability to follow processes and procedures
  • Ability to communicate effectively, particularly using online media

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A four year degree in English, Technical Writing, Library Science, Business writing or equivalent
  • Two or more years of experience writing, creating, and maintaining web based knowledge content in a similar role will also be considered in lieu of a college degree
  • Fluent at reading, writing, and speaking in the English language
